“The Aging Better Expo has exceeded our expectations,” said the Elderwerks President. Jennifer Brill. “The speakers were amazing and had great commentary. The resources and representatives on site were all engaged and supportive of the seniors and seniors who toured the fair. We are already planning the next fair — the 10th anniversary of this event — for August 14, 2024“.

Visitors met with representatives from over 100 local resources and aging experts who provided information about local service agencies, senior communities, businesses and benefits. Presentations were both in-person and virtual, and ranged from increasing strength and mobility, to learning the basics of medical care, and being aware of various financial scams. Some of the presentations have been recorded and can be viewed by visiting this connection.

We found that our most popular presentations focused on topics of interest to many seniors, such as estate planning and scam “Protection and advocacy,” Brill said. “The last topic worries many when we hear about seniors being subjected to financial scams that not only rob them of their hard-earned cash but also leave them afraid to trust people who have their best intentions in mind.” This year, we focused on different areas of health, and I was glad to see guests wanting to learn about how they can improve their brain health as they age.”

Because of the important need to help veterans and Hispanic speakers, Brill and her team are also offering two more free events. The Elderwerks will host the Veteran’s Health and Wellness Fair at Elderwerks Monday, November 6th from 3 to 6 p.m McHenry County Sheriff’s Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock, Illinoisexposure Latina Para Maiores | Latino show for seniors Thursday, November 16th from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m At St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Edward’s Catholic Preparatory Academy Auditorium, 274 Division Street, Elgin, Illinois.

“The Elderwerks Latino Senior Show is an exciting opportunity for Elderwerks and local resources to help seniors, seniors, caregivers and their families understand the services available to them,” Brill said. “We believe this population is underserved. We want to help everyone understand what is available to our Latino seniors, including local and federal resources, and how to avoid scams and scamaging well Illinois“.
