According to a probable cause affidavit, at approximately 2:40 p.m. on August 17, officers of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department responded to a call about a shooting that occurred at the apartment complex of the 3900 Building on South Johns Boulevard near Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. The caller — who was later identified as the victim’s daughter — told the dispatcher to “Hurry up,” adding, “He has a gun,” while the dispatcher said several gunshots could be heard in the background.

“There was a lot of commotion and screaming and (the daughter) seemed to get away from the phone,” the affidavit said. When she got back on the phone, she said her mother had died.”

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found two additional gunshot victims, in addition to Tamayo Cruz, who was pronounced dead at the scene. As for the other two injured, one of whom was shot in the elbow and the other with a bullet in the eye, they were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
