GILLETTE, Wyoming – Here is a summary of the high-profile crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Breach of the Peace, Aug. 29, W Lakeway Rd., GPD

Gillette Police Deputy Chief Brent Wasson said officers took a 13-year-old boy to the YES House after the boy challenged school staff and a school resource officer at Sage Valley Junior High School around 8:17 a.m. The boy was also defiant with his mother, who asked to transfer the boy.

MIP, Aug. 29, Opportunity Spur, GPD

Wasson said a 16-year-old girl was cited for possession of tobacco after she was arrested with a vaporizer at Westwood High School around 8:29 a.m.

Battery, Aug. 29, Camel Drive, GPD

Wasson said two teenage boys were cited for assault and battery after they attacked a 14-year-old boy at Campbell County High School during lunch around 12:45 p.m. yesterday. The 14-year-old boy who was attacked suffered a broken hand. The altercation stopped when a bystander intervened.

Shoplifting, Aug. 29, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Wasson said officers responded to a store on S. Douglas Highway around 5:06 p.m. after employees called to report a shoplifting incident. A 60-year-old man reportedly tried to exit through a side door with $71 worth of merchandise and was later cited by officers for shoplifting.

Shoplifting, Aug. 29, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Wasson said employees at a store on S. Douglas Highway called police after they caught the 41-year-old woman scanning $121 worth of items around 6:21 p.m. The woman was cited for shoplifting and a trespassing notice was issued from the company.

Hit and Run, Aug. 29, Overdale Drive, GPD

Wasson said officers responded to Overdale Drive around 8:31 p.m. after a 51-year-old man called to report someone hit his 2022 Dodge Ram and left. The man told officers he saw a silver Dodge car pulling away after hearing a crash. He went out to find the driver’s side mirror damaged. Damages are estimated at less than $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Aug. 30, S. 4-J Way, GPD

Wasson said employees at the Waystation on S. 4-J called police at 1:26 a.m. to report that a 28-year-old man had been arrested while stealing a child’s bike from a bike carrier. The man got into a confrontation with the staff and left with a suitcase. It is not known if the bag belonged to the man and officers are continuing to search for him.
